What Can One Business Do?

The polycrisis we are in can seem overwhelming. Every year there are more regulations and frameworks to help us move forward with some of the current issues we face.

As a business you are in a unique position to make a difference, to leave the world in a better place and leave a lasting positive legacy.

Here are a few ideas of what your business can do..

STOP and reflect, take a long look at the products and services you provide. Ask if they are contributing to the wellbeing of people and planet. If not you have a wonderful opportunity to change. To reduce your impact on the world and turn it around.

LEARN from the world around you. Understanding forms, functions and systems and the principles that the rest of the natural world uses. Like there is no such thing as waste! Everything gets reused and turned into something else. The true circular economy. Design is everything, the better the design the less materials that are needed.

INVEST – You are in a wonderful position to contribute through impact investment. This is a strategy that aims to generate a financial return while also creating a positive social or environmental impact. Banking with ethical banks also shows you care and want to create an influence.

INNOVATE – Life is constantly innovating, adapting and improving. What would that look like for you?

OFFICE IMPROVEMENTS – So many ways we can help reduce our energy consumption and environmental impact from lighting and heating, using a renewable energy provider, through to digital footprints, shutting down tech and buying second hand equipment, reducing food and water waste, reducing travel and creating green spaces.

LOCAL COMMUNITY WORK – How does your business benefit your local community? If we all helped improve our local environment, we would bring more health and happiness to people as well as the other local species who live there.

UNDERSTANDING YOUR SUPPLY CHAIN – Nature is the master of efficient nutrient sharing, communication and movement. How could you make your supply chain more efficient and therefore use less energy and create less waste?

JOINED UP THINKING – Certain technologies help us move out of silo thinking into a more joined up approach. This not only saves time and money but also helps through connected networks improve efficiency.
