Girl Power – Myself and Ivonne Macias ( The Committee of Human Rights, Shushufindi, Ecuador) showing how its done.
I was the first person to build rainwater systems in this part of the Ecuadorean Amazon, to help those most in need and who are drinking contaminated water. I started small, improving the systems every year, using materials I could source locally, diverting the first rain due to contamination from the gas flares and adding a simple filter of stones, charcoal and sand.
In total we have built over 200 families rainwater systems and many more have been replicated.
